Family Traditions

Where to start! A lot has happened since I lasted posted. The 28th of June I went to Las Vegas for a national convention for my job. It was fun and I had a real good time, but the heat just about killed me. On the 8th of July my sister-in-law Wendy and her husband Jim stopped by to visit. They left on Friday the 10th headed for California. So I took Thursday off so I could spend some time with them. I told them about what had been going on in my life. How I wanted a riding lawn mower and a shed to put it in. How I had gone to look at carpeting and flooring for my front room and dining room. And how I needed a fence around my yard, to keep Herbie from chasing people down the sidewalk. Thursday morning RC Willey's came by and measured all the rooms in my house for carpet and flooring. Then a company called Ace Fab, came out to measure for fencing. Herb used to sharpen saw blades for Ace Fab, so I thought I'd give them some business. They seemed to help with us getting a paycheck every two weeks. It was before I went to Vegas that I looked at the carpet and flooring. My girlfriend Margie went with me. She mentioned that if I was going to get new flooring in the kitchen, it would be nice to have new cabinets also. I got so excited about everything being done. But on the other hand I got really scared thinking about it. These are things that Herb and I had talked about doing, but of course things cost money. And we really didn't have a lot of that either. Jim told me he could put the shed together for me. If I had gotten a wood shed from Lowe's it would have to be special ordered. I went to the credit union to see if I could get a home equity loan. Next off we went to Sears, to look at a shed and a riding mower. Then we went to Lowe's. I found a shed and I purchased it. We had to rent a u-haul to get it home, I wasn't going to pay $75.00 for them to deliver it. So that evening we went out to Golden Corral for dinner. Then Jayson and his children and Justin, came to my house and helped Jim and Wendy put my shed together. They started at 6:30 and finished at 11:30. Jayson and his children left at 8:15 to go home, he had to get up early for work. On Monday the 13th Ace Fab came out and put the poles in for the fence. They didn't show up again until the 21st to do the fence, then I had to call them to see when they were going to put the gates up. Well now my fence is finished, they came today. YEAH now Herbie can go outside without his leash on. I now you are porbably wondering why I titled this family tradition. Today is the 24th of July, the day the Mormon pioneers came into the great Salt Lake Valley. Ogden City always has a parade to celebrate this day. And it has always been a family tradition, to go to the parade together. Last years I blew that tradition, I was at our national convention in Philly. This year I was home, but both my boy's had to work. So I kept my two oldest granddaugthers' Helen and Dorothy over night and we went to the parade. My daugther-in-law Lisa and her two girls Natasha and Patricia walked down from their house to join us. So as to the rest of my repairs in the house, not yet. Shed yes, fence yes. Someday the rest will get done, I just need to do a little at a time. Hope I didn't bore you to tears. Maybe next time I won't wait so long to post.

First hair cut.

Herbie had a couple of terrible days. First he decided to eat a leaf off of a Peace Lily plant, on Wednesday. We went to visit dad's grave that night, and I was rolling around in the grass. Mom thought I'd found something that smelled good, and was enjoying it. Little did she know the plant was brothering my throat. On Thursday mom caught me trying to finish off the leaf. Wasn't feeling to good, I threw up on the living room carpet. I had a bad case of diarrhea, and a sore bottom. Mom got real worried so she called a vet hospital. So off we went to the hospital, an hour later and $135.81 they sent me home. On Friday she took me to get my rabies shot, the doctor wouldn't give it to me, he was afraid I'd have a reaction to it and end back at the hospital. So we went and had me groomed. She even bought me a tag with my name, address & phone # on it. I feel important now. Hopefully mom has learned a lesson, and will keep the house plants out of my reach. Mom's friend Margie, said that I'm still not myself. Oh well it will take some time for me to get back to normal.

Sorry

This is only my third post and I forgot how to add pictures. So I'll try again.

Rainy Days & Mondays

I'm so tired of the rain. It has rained every day this week. It's so bad that I have mushroom growing in my grass. The grass is so long I'm afraid the city is going to give me a warning. Oh well what can a person do when the sun doesn't shine long enough to dry the grass, so it can be mowed. On the 10th & 11th I went to Sandy UT, for our state convention. Then on the 28th I leave for Las Vegas for our national convention. This is all job related, of course you all know what I do for a living. Only 5 more years and I can retire, then I hope to do a lot of traveling. In August my girlfriend Margie and I are headed for Wisconsin. We will be spending 2 weeks there, and going to family reunions. In the 32 years I was married to Herbert, we never made it to any of his family reunions. So I'm quite excited about going, and getting to know his relatives. While I'm there in WI I hope to be able to visit with my girlfriend Debby Hack. We meet her and her husband Rick when he was stationed at Hill AFB. We've been friends since before Kimberly was born, and she'll be 33 this September. ( sorry Kimberly) There is a new someone in my life. I will put a picture of him. Bye for now.

South Dakota Trip

On May 30th I took a trip to South Dakota, along with my friend Margie Holbrook and my granddaughter Helen. We went to visit my daughter Kimberly and her husband Patrick. We had such a good time that we really didn't want to leave to come home. Unfortunately there is this thing called work and a thing called bills. You know what I mean, you have to work so you can live. Kimberly and Patrick, had the whole week planned with fun things to do. On Monday Patrick took the day off work; we headed for the Badlands and Wall Drug. You'd never believe the Badlands were even there. On Tuesday morning the 3 girls went to breakfast at Perkins. After breakfast we headed for Storybook Island. It a theme park made up with storybook characters. That evening we all went to Watiki water park for a ride down the lazy river on tubes. Of course I can't forget the water slides, oh my heck, what a thrill. Both times down the slides I had Helen go over my head and the next time it was Patrick. I thought I was going to drown. Afterwards we went to Arnold's Diner for something to eat. It's a 50's style diner, Patrick even danced with his niece Helen. Wednesday morning Patrick took us on a tour of a B1; we even got to go up into the cockpit. That was real neat, but a little cramped for my liking. Kimberly, Margie & I went to Deadwood for the evening. Patrick took Helen to Chuck E. Cheese for an evening of fun. Thursday morning the 4 of us girls got up and went to Cosmos. When that was done we drove to Hill City and had lunch at the Alpine Inn Restaurant; talk about good German food, and the dessert was fabulous. From there we drove to Keystone, and looked for souvenir's for the rest of my grandchildren in UT. That evening we went to Bandit Lanes for burgers and fries and $1.00 night bowling. Friday morning the girls went to Golden Corral for breakfast, then we went shopping at Wal-Mart and Kimberly's favorite department store, Kohl's. I must say I did get a few things for myself. That night we went to Putz n Glo, to play miniature golf. We actually ate at home, we had burgers on the grill. After dinner Kimberly's friend Kris came over to visit with us for a little while. In to bed early, because we had an early morning on Saturday. The dreaded 12 hour drive back to UT. We really had a fun time, I'm thinking of taking one of my other granddaughters, Natasha, next time.
